Week 3

Today starts week 3 of home preschool with Josh. Months ago my friend, Lisa told me about a home school preschool curriculum she found. After looking it over, it was a very easy decision that this was what I was going to use with Josh. Each lesson uses the perfect combination of academics and Bible that it fun, simple and easy for the little 3 year old brain.

Josh is doing awesome! He loves "school" and I love the progress I am seeing after just 2 weeks. Granted, he is a very active little boy who does not have a very long attention span. Our little sessions last about 10 minutes, but we have about 3 on a good day. My goal was to get in 3 good days each week and we've done more like 5. I hope his enthusiasm lasts.

So far we have focused on numbers 1-5, days of the week, the creation story, memorizing Genesis 1:1 and a few colors he had been slow on learning. It is so amazing how fast he comprehends and understands when he is able to focus and have some real 1 on 1 teaching time with me. (That is when he isn't putting crayons up his nose, turning the number 3 into a race track or drawing silly pictures of his family... I have to remember he is 3 and a boy)

This week we'll add numbers 6 ,7 and the letter A into the mix.

In case you are wondering if I plan on homeschooling the boys when they actually do start school (all my 3 readers out there)... probably not. I am totally for homeschooling, but I know that some kids really need to GO to school and I am pretty positive that Josh is one of them. My prayer is that we'll be able to send both boys to one of the private schools in town. Until then, they'll be learning at home with mommy!

15 Months

I really can't believe that my baby is already 15 months old! I don't think I can technically still call him a baby. Sometimes I forget that he is not a baby anymore. He has been totally fighting me lately when he sits down in his high chair to eat, which is odd because this boy loves to eat. Then I realized... he doesn't want me to feed him anymore. If I put the plate or bowl down, the boy will eat all by himself with a fork/spoon and no mess like a champ. It's stuff like this that I do all the time. I forget that he is a toddler now and not a baby. He is so independent lately.


It goes by all too fast. I still feel like this should be Jason...


I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the boys are getting older. We are starting to get out of that "baby phase", which I am really enjoying. I do wish I could hold that tiny baby Josh and tiny baby Jason again though.

Did You Know?...

... that I am a pilot and I fly a pink airplane with a number 8 on it? Well, according to my very imaginative 3 year old that is my current profession this week.

I think Josh is a little confused about his mommy's job. He knows what daddy does and is very proud. He even voluntarily told the lady at the UPS store today where his daddy works.

Here are a couple professions that he has told people I do:
pull weeds
wash clothes
work out at the gym
drive a tow truck
play instruments

Notice teacher and MOMMY are not on that list? hmmmm... someone needs to set this boy straight. I really don't want my kid going around telling people his mommy drives a tow truck!

(FYI: do not type pictures of busy moms into google... you will not find the kind of busy you are looking for if you know what I mean!)

It's The Little Things

... that make my son so happy!

After breakfast, Josh sometimes likes to watch a new show on Playhouse Disney called Special Agent Oso. It is a really cute (and mommy approved) show where a bear is a special agent and helps kids solve problems in three steps. On one of the episodes Special Agent Oso helped a little girl make popsicles.
Josh has been asking to make these homemade popsicles, so today he did. I took him to the grocery store and let him pick out an ice tray (we have an ice maker in our fridge, so I couldn't find a single ice tray), juice and toothpicks. He followed Special Agent Oso's three special steps of pouring the juice, covering the ice tray with saran wrap and poking the toothpicks through.
He was so proud of himself. I love how simple things like this make him so happy!

Mrs. Katherman is Back

This used to be such a crazy time for me a few years ago when I was still teaching 3rd grade. Prepping for a new school year is a lot of work. The week prior to the first day of school was always so crazy with getting the classroom ready, learning new curriculum, preparing lesson plans, making lots and lots of copies, going to lots of meetings, getting all the materials ready for each new student, etc... the list never ends.
I am absolutely positive that we made the right decision for me to take a break from teaching full time to be home with the boys. But this time every year a small part of me misses teaching and the crazy stressful excitement of getting ready for a new school year.
Well... God knows me all too well and I am experiencing some major de ja vu!

I was asked to take on the children's ministry at our church. After praying about it I felt God telling me, "Duh, April!" This is completely up my alley.

So, that crazy stressful excitement of getting ready for another school year is back. I spent the afternoon in the classrooms at church and my evening at Target filling my cart with school supplies. My kitchen table in overflowing with curriculum and my to do list is getting longer.

On top of getting everything ready for church, I am starting a home school preschool curriculum with Josh tomorrow. My teacher mode is turned on and in high gear!

It's been awhile... not that I haven't had a ton to blog about, I just haven't have the time to sit and do it.
We wrapped up our busy summer this weekend with a trip to Nevada to visit my family. We went to the park to feed the ducks and play, got to see my brother's fire station, threw my brother a surprise 21st birthday party and my dad and Mike went on a two day gold mining adventure.

We had my brother's party at his church. At the end of the night when we were cleaning up the boys got on stage and had fun singing with the microphone. Here's a cute clip of Jason.

I can't believe that Josh is 3 and Jason is 14 months. Where has the time gone?
Josh is such a little man. He even takes the trash out. Jason is no longer a baby. He is a getting into everything, active toddler. The boys definitely keep me busy and entertained. I have two little comedians on my hands.
I am really enjoying their ages right now. I am so blessed to be able to stay at home with them. They are growing up way too fast. Can we freeze time for just a little bit?
